Hilton Head, S.C. - Strong performances from the top of the Millersville lineup was not enough as the women's tennis team dropped its spring opener to Fairmont State, 5-4.

Junior Melissa Plowman and senior Samantha Prager were impressive against a 9-5 Fairmont State club. Plowman nearly swept All-WVIAC First Team selection Galina Vishnikina, winning by an 8-1 score. Prager followed at No. 2 singles with a convincing 8-4 win.

The duo also paired for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles over Preston and Vishnikina. That win improved the tandem to 4-2 on the season.

Fairmont State, however, took No. 2 and No. 3 doubles and three singles bouts. Alexandra Heller, who topped Caitlin Crutchfield 6-4, 6-4, was the other Marauder to account for a point.

Millersville fell to 2-4 with the loss. It remains in Hilton Head for four more matches of the next four days.
