ESU's 3-Point Barrage Sinks Marauders

Box Score East Stroudsburg, Pa. - With 10:30 left in Wednesday's PSAC East game between Millersville and East Stroudsburg, the Marauders trailed by just four points. That's when Whis Grant decided to take over the game. The Warrior freshman guard hit 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions to bury Millersville's comeback attempt and clinch a PSAC Tournament spot for his team, 80-69.

Grant made just one field goal in the first half but shot 4-of-4 from 3 in second half to finish with a team-high 19 points. In the process, he set a new ESU freshman record for 3's in a season. His marksmanship was deadly for a Marauder team that dropped to 9-14 overall and 7-12 in the PSAC, effectively ending its postseason hopes.

Millersville trailed by as many as 17 early in the second half, but a spirited charge led by Demond Vance pulled Millersville to within four at 55-51 with 10:30 left in the game. Vance, who scored a season-high 24 points, scored 12 points in a six-minute span. His second 3-pointer of the stretch brought Millersville as close as it had been since mid-way throught the first half.

Grant, however, immediately responded with his consecutive triples. On the next Millersville inbounds pass, the Marauders looked to have a fastbreak basket, but Grant caught Anthony Coleman from behind, stole the ball and skipped it ahead to Matt Tobin, who drilled another 3 to increase East Stroudsburg's lead from four to 13 in under two minutes.

Millersville was never again closer than 11 points. East Stroudsburg shot 12-of-21 from behind the arc while the marauders made 3-of-11. ESu also scored 30 points off of 16 Millersville turnovers.

Marauder senior Elijah Obade recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Vance and Obade were the lone Marauders to hit double figures. Larry Grant, Millersville's leading scorer, handed out eight assists but managed two points on 1-of-4 shooting.

East Stroudsburg stayed in the mix for the PSAC East crown by improving to 16-9 overall and 12-7 in the PSAC. It is the team's sixth playoff berth in the last seven seasons.

Millersville plays its final home game on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Mansfield. The game is also part of the "Hooping for a Cure" initiative, which raises awareness for the fight against breast cancer.
