
Wawrzyniak-Bush and Ladd Lead Wrestlers at New Standard Invitational

York, Pa. - On the strength of a third-place finish from 157-pound Zac Wawrzyniak-Bush and a fourth-place finish from heavyweight Brad Ladd, the Millersville wrestling team placed 10th out of 13 teams at Saturday's New Standard Invitational hosted by York.
Wawrzyniak-Bush, placing for the first time in his career, totaled four wins to take third. He won 7-4 over Antonio Mancella of The College of New Jersey, and then earned a 5-3 overtime decision to advance to the quarterfinals. Wawrzyniak-Bush moved on again with a 4-2 win over York's Drew Spector. One win from the title bout, Wawrzyniak-Bush was clipped 6-5 by UMBC's Martin Mitchell.
In the third-place match, Wawrzyniak-Bush topped Adam Kritzer by a 7-4 decision.
Ladd, wrestling in his first tournament of the season, put himself in outstanding position to place by reaching the championship semifinals before suffering his first defeat.
Ladd defeated York's Michael Lynch with a pin at the 4:33 mark in the opening round. He then scored an 8-2 decision over Kevin Gray of the Apprentice School to advance. Ladd moved on to the semis by pinning York's Mike Spencer in just 52 seconds.
Elizabethtown's Jeremy Rieth advanced edged Ladd by a 3-2 decision to know him into the third-place match. There, Ladd again fell in a close decision, 5-2, to Ian Jones of the Apprentice School.
133-pound Kyle Loeb scored three wins including a first round pin in 55 seconds in the consolation round. David Charles III, wrestling at 141 pounds, also won three matches, two of which came by pin.
149-pound Josh Ruppert started quickly with pins in 58 seconds and 38 seconds before dropping into the consolation round. He eventually was forced to medical forfeit to teammate Aaron Trimpey, who won four bouts. Brock Thompson won three matches in the consolation round, including a 16-0 tech fall over Ithaca's Joe Rollings.
Zach Pincus won a first round decision at 174 and also picked up a 14-0 major decision and a 7-2 decision in the consolation round.
Millersville heads to the PSAC Championships at East Stroudsburg on Dec. 8.
