Box Score Millersville, Pa. - After allowing 174 points in its opening two losses,
Fred Thompson's Millersville men's basketball team refocused its efforts on the defensive end of the floor. The Marauders hounded Penn State Harrisburg all Tuesday evening and cruised to their third consecutive victory, 70-49.
Millersville (3-2) has now won three in a row since the start of the 2009-10 season and the streak has come because of its defense. The Marauders have not allowed more than 55 points and are allowing just 45.0 points per game and 30.8 percent shooting in the three wins.
Penn State Harrisburg (1-2) shot 28.6 percent from the field under Millersville's pressure. William Doyle's six threes provided the bulk of the Nittany Lions' scoring. Millersville, meanwhile, saw four players reach double figures.
Xavier Mumford led with a career-high 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor.
Senior center
Elijah Obade turned in another dominating performance on the glass. He grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds and scored 11 points to post his 12th career double-double and third in four games this season. He also swatted a season-high four shots.
Penn State Harrisburg took a 5-2 lead after a 3-pointer from Doyle 3:50 into the game, but Millersville responded with 11 consecutive points and a 21-5 run that effectively buried the Lions.
Millersville stretched the lead to to 37-23 at the break and continued to pull away in the second half by scoring the first five points on the period. Mumford's lay-up at the 12:06 mark gave Millersville its largest lead of the game at 55-31.
Brandon Belt scored 11 points--all in the first half--on 4-of-8 shooting the field and 3-of-5 shooting from behind the arc.
Anthony Coleman added 11 points.
Obade's 19-rebound effort improved his PSAC-leading average to 13.8 per game. He's recorded double-digit rebounds in 12 of his last 15 games. He also extended his streak of consecutive games with a block to 13.
Millersville begins PSAC play on Dec. 1 at Lock Haven and plays Clarion the following day. Fans can listen to the live audio on
