Millersville, Pa. – Coming off a strong showing against Harford Community College on Monday when the women's tennis team blanked the Fighting Owls, the Marauders were looking to hike their record to 2-1 with a win over visiting Goldey-Beacom Wednesday afternoon. Millersville's second win of the season will have to wait, however, as the Lightning handed Millersville the same defeat (9-0) that the Marauders doled out to Harford two days earlier.
The loss drops Milersville to 1-2 on the season. The Marauders couldn't muster a match win in nine tries, and the strongest outing of the day came from
Elizabeth Wagner, who fell to Bianca Sancho 6-4, 6-1. No player won as many sets as the five Wagner took against Sancho. The next best performance came from
Melissa Plowman, who dropped 6-3, 6-1 scores at the hands of Puentes Robinson.
Wagner and
Alexandra Heller also produced the best doubles performance of the day, dropping a match to Filipa Correia and Vanessa Leon, 8-4. Plowman teamed with
Kelsey Waite in doubles play, but the pairing dropped an 8-2 decision to Robinson and Sancho.
The Marauders will have to put this loss out of their collective memories quickly as a date with PSAC foe California (Pa.) looms on Saturday at Slippery Rock. Millersville is hoping break the 5-5 tie in the all-time series between the teams. The showdown with the Vulcans is slated to start at 2 p.m.
