Women's Soccer Spoils West Chester's Hopes in Season Finale

Box Score Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville women's soccer team played the role of spoiler to perfection Saturday. West Chester, ranked No. 7 in Division II, had an opportunity to win the PSAC regular season outright, but Millersville ended those hopes with a 1-0 win on Senior Day at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.

Millersville (5-8-5, 2-8-4 PSAC) handed West Chester (10-3-1, 10-3-1 PSAC) only its third loss and first shutout loss of the season. Freshman goalkeeper Olivia Webber completed her stellar freshman campaign with 11 saves--marking her fourth game and third in a row with double-digit saves. Webber's 126 saves are the most by a Marauders since 2006.

West Chester totaled 31 shots, including 19 in the second half. Millersville, meanwhile, totaled just six shots and put only two on goal. But it only takes one shot sometimes.

That's all that Millersville needed for the upset. In the 73rd minute, Sara Cressman passed across the box to freshman Megan Kelley, who beat Shannon Fedyk for the game-winner. The goal was Kelley's team-leading fourth of the season.

The win was just the sixth win in 24 tries for Millersville against West Chester, and the first since 2004--a span of 12 games.

A win over nationally-ranked West Chester was a perfect way to send off a class of eight seniors. Before the game, the program recognized Tess Briggs, Anne Grandfield, Erin Kerchner, Chrissy McLaughlin, Lindsay Wilson, Gina Grier, Allison Casola and Jenna Gould
