Warriors No Match for Marauders in Sweep

Box Score Millersville, Pa. – Coming into Saturday's match on the heels of a huge win over Lock Haven Friday night, the Marauders could have had a letdown match against East Stroudsburg, another team Millersville was looking up at in the standings. That didn't happen, however, as the Marauders powered past the Warriors with a 3-0 victory, claiming their ninth victory of the season.

Millersville hadn't lost a set against East Stroudsburg since head coach Brian Smith took over at the helm in 2010 and made sure that streak remained intact, winning by set scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 25-23. But the Warriors, true to their name, battled the Marauders the entire way and made the home team work for its three-set win, particularly in the third set.

East Stroudsburg appeared to be sending Millersville to a fourth set and threatened to end Smith's teams' perfect streak against the Warriors. The Marauders used a furious rally after trailing 23-20 in set three and closed out the Warriors by winning the final five points to clinch their third PSAC East win and second in as many days.

Katie Lesinski had another big match with 12 kills. It was the third-straight match in which Lesinski had double-digit kills, as she hit .345 for her second-best hitting output of the year. Taylor Smith checked in with eight kills for a season- and career-high. The entire offense clicked in the match to the tune of a team .222 attack percentage. Jessica Franz tallied a match-high 31 assists.

For the second-straight match, the defense proved its might, smothering the Warrior attack. East Stroudsburg hit just .132 as a team and committed 21 hitting errors. The home team dug out 51 kill attempts and blocked seven more. Brooklyn Smith led the defensive effort with 19 digs, and Sue Caramanico added 10 to solidify the back line. Up front, Franz had four blocks (all assists) to pace Millersville in that category.

The PSAC East win brings the Marauders record to 3-8 in conference matches. If there was ever a time for Millersville to make up ground in its division, it is in the home stretch of the team's schedule. Eight of the Marauders' final nine matches are against teams from the PSAC East. Millersville now sits in a tie for fourth place in the standings with idle West Chester, which the Marauders play at home on Saturday, Oct. 20.

Before the team gets to its matchup with the Golden Rams, Millersville must turn its attention to Cheyney on Friday, Oct. 19. That match is slated to start at 7 p.m.
