Box Score California, Pa. - Millersville found very little charity from the charity stripe Friday evening at California (Pa.). The Marauders missed eight-straight free throws down the stretch, and California needed to score just three points in overtime to come away with a 62-60 win.
Millersville (3-8, 1-6 PSAC) led California (7-6, 4-3 PSAC) 59-56 with 12 seconds to go in regulation after
Larry Grant scored for two of his team-high 15 points. Cal quickly pushed the ball up the court and Travon Vann drilled the game-tying three with just two seconds to go.
Elijah Obade, the Marauders' 6-9 center, caught the in-bounds pass and had a look at three, but it was no good, sending the contest to overtime.
Cal, which shot 32.9 percent from the field for the game, managed just 1-of-6 from the field in the extra period. But that one bucket from Steve Swiech, which came 31 seconds in overtime, and a free throw from Quentin Harding with seven seconds left was all the Vulcans needed.
Millersville went 1-for-8 from the line in the overtime and missed its first seven. It also missed all four shots from the field. Grant went to the stripe with the score 61-59 and eight seconds left. He made the second for Millersville's only point of the overtime. After Harding made 1-of-2, Millersville still had seven seconds for one last shot, but
Jim Kelleher's three missed.
Millersville shot 8-of-24 from the line in the game and shot 37.5 percetn from the field. The Marauders trailed 30-25 following a sluggish first half but pushed in front 33-31 on a
Jaymes Miller layup with 17:48 left in regulation. Millersville led by as many as five with 5:57 to go. The lead changed hands 14 times and stood tied seven times.
In addition to 15 points, Grant added five assists and a career-high eight rebounds.
Mike Seibert contributed 12 points and
Rob Wyley chipped in 11 points and seven boards. Obade registered 10 rebounds, giving him double-digit boards in four straight. The PSAC's blocked shots leader swatted four shots.
Millersville stays on the road and faces No. 23 Indiana (Pa.) Saturday.
