Kutztown, Pa. – The Millersville women's volleyball team went to Kutztown looking for its second road win of the season. The Marauders will have to wait until tomorrow to try for that win again as they were taken down by the Golden Bears, 3-1.
The Marauders fell to 6-9 (1-3 PSAC East) on the season with the loss. They played point-for-point with Kutztown and gave the 12-4 Bears all they could handle. After falling in the first set 25-18, Millersville rallied to take set two 28-26. Kutztown then bounced back won the match behind back-to-back set wins with scores of 25-14 and 25-23.
The third set was where Kutztown found a way to swing the match back in their favor. In that set, the Bears forced the Marauders to make 10 errors, while only making three themselves. Not only did Kutztown take the third set because of their defensive play, but it was also why they won the match overall. The Bears held Millersville to a .116 attack percentage and had 11 blocks to only three for the Marauders.
Allison Huss and Mary Paul led the Marauders on the offensive side. Huss's 11 kills, combined with her 11 digs gave her a second straight double-double after posting 10 kills and 16 digs against Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday. Paul chipped in 10 kills, with a .368 hitting percentage on 19 swings. Katie Pisano added 19 assists for the Marauders while Katie Lesinski tallied eight kills and nine digs.
Millersville was undone by a frontline of Cali Snell (15 kills, .429 hitting percentage), Cait Hess (12 kills, .407 hitting) and Erin Kissling (11 kills, .235 hitting), who all posted double digit kills in the match for the Bears. Kutztown had a .195 hitting percentage, killing 54 total shots as a team.
The Marauders will have a quick turnaround. They again look for their second road win and second PSAC win Saturday afternoon in a 1 p.m. match at West Chester. Millersville returns home to Pucillo Gymnasium on Tuesday where the team is 5-1 this season. That match will be against Shippensburg in a third straight PSAC East battle and will begin a string of nine straight home matches for the Marauders.
