ABOUT THE GAME

Millersville returns seven starters from last season's squad including senior Talyor Suskie who has been an asset on both the offensive and defensive side of the pitch. Suskie has played each of the last two seasons as a forward and a goalkeeper, but looks to stay on the attack this year.

The Marauders are led by four seniors, including Suskie. The senior class has 166 combined games of experience on the pitch at Millersville. Head coach Mike O'Brien has added 10 newcomers, eight freshman and two transfers, to add stability at each position.

The Marauders only win last season came on the road against Shepherd in a 1-0 victory off the foot of Suskie. Millersville looks to start the season in the win column as they open the season against the Rams Thursday night.

Shepherd also struggled a year ago with a 3-13 overall record and 1-8 in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC). The Rams were picked ninth in the WVIAC 2011 preseason poll.

The Rams return eight starters from last year's team, including both goalkeepers who saw over 625 minutes of game time each a season ago. Last year's top goal scorer and points leader, Brianna Hines (6 goals, 13 points), returns for her final season. Shepherd has five seniors on the roster including Rachel Dewbery who was the only player to play in every game last year.

Millersville has met Shepherd just four times on the pitch with the Marauders holding a 3-1 all time record against the Rams. Under Coach O'Brien, Millersville is 2-1. In the series the Marauders have outscored the Rams by a 23-5 margin. Millersville came away with an 11-1 victory the first ever meeting in 2001, and a 9-1 victory in O'Brien's first year at the helm.
