Mansfield Holds Off Marauders, 74-67

Box Score

Mansfield, Pa. - Millersville pulled within one score of homestanding Mansfield time after time Saturday. But the Marauders could never quite get over the hump. Mansfield used clutch 3-point shooting down the stretch to hand Millersville a 74-67 loss.

Millersville (9-12, 4-6 PSAC East), which lost back-to-back games for the fifth time this year, led early but with 7:15 to go in the first half, Kyle Bradley hit one of his three 3-pointers to give Mansfield (15-7, 7-3 PSAC East) its first lead at 22-20. The Marauders would never see the lead again.

It was a disheartening loss for the Marauders, who fell to 1-9 on the road. With Bloomsburg, Cheyney and East Stroudsburg all winning Saturday, the Marauders dropped all the way to sixth in the division. They are just a game out of playoff contention, though, with four games remaining.

Mansfield drilled 8-of-17 3-pointers in the game. Bradley was a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc and 5-of-5 from the field. Yuseff Carr sank 8-of-10 shots for a game-high 24. While Carr did the damage inside, Bradley, Tony Farrick and Anthony Derrison hit 3-pointers just when their team needed it most.

Millersville pulled even twice early in the second period using a 10-2 run from Demond Vance and Mike Holley. Just as soon as Holley tied the game at 44, though, Mansfield scored for two and Fannick hit a three on the next possession to make it a five-point game.

With just under five minutes to play, Mike Seibert made a pair of free throws to bring Millersville to within 58-55. Again, Bradley hit another triple to extend the advantage. Trailing by seven, the Marauders had one more run left. Holley made 1-of-2 from the line, Bernard Brown recorded a steal and converted a layup, and Anthony Coleman pulled down a missed Mansfield shot and then scored for two at the other end, cutting Mansfield's lead to 62-60 with 3:11 left.

This time, it was Derrison's turn. He splashed a three on Mansfield's next possession. After a Millersville turnover and missed shot, Fannick hit his third three of the game to put the game out of reach.

Mansfield shot 48.1 percent from the field, but Millersville turned 19 turnovers into 18 points. Brown record his second-straight double-double by totaling 17 points and 10 rebounds. He also swatted three shots. Holley finished with 13 points and five assists, and Jaymes Miller added 10.

Millersville hosts East Stroudsburg Wednesday is what amounts to a must-win game. Tip is 8 p.m.
