ABOUT THE GAME
· Millersville and Shippensburg meet in Heiges Fieldhouse Wednesday in what is almost a must-win game for both teams. Both squads are 2-4 in PSAC East play and are trying to stay in the mix for a playoff spot. Millersville is attempting to bounce back from tough back-to-back losses to Kutztown and East Stroudsburg, and Shippensburg, which won 76-72 at East Stroudsburg on Saturday, is hoping it can keep the momentum in its favor. Millersville is also trying to avoid losing three-straight games for the second time this season.
· Millersville's road woes have become a serious issue as it has lost all seven away games compared to a 7-3 home record. Five of the seven road games have been decided by 10 points or fewer. The difference isn't in the offense. It's in the team's defense. At home, Millersville is averaging 70.6 points and allowing 65.0 points on 39.9 percent shooting. On the road, the Marauders are scoring just 0.9 points per game less but are allowing 78.4 points per game on 48.8 percent shooting. Millersville is also averaging seven rebounds fewer per game on the road.
· Junior Mike Seibert has been red-hot over the last three games, and he's had past success against Shippensburg. He scored 26 on seven threes on Feb. 15, 2010. He's scored in double figures in each of those three and is averaging 17.0 points per game in the stretch. Of his 33 field goal attempts, 23 have come from 3-point range, and he's hit an impressive 11-of-23 from three (.478). He's also made 14-of-16 free throws and recorded nine steals in the three games. He has hit just 2-of-10 two-point field goals, however. On the season, Seibert has taken 97 threes to 32 two-pointers. He's shooting 37.1 percent from three but 40.6 percent from two. Among PSAC leaders, Seibert ranks 11th in free throw percentage, 11th in steals and seventh in 3-pointers made.
· Shippensburg has given Coach Fred Thompson fits during his tenure. Millersville won last year's meeting at Pucillo 79-71 by hitting 13 3-pointers, but Ship has won four of the last five and 10 of the last 14 dating to 2001-02. 10 of those games have been decided by single-digit margins. Millersville's last win at Heiges Fieldhouse came on Nov. 29, 1999. It has lost six-straight games in the building.
· Shippensburg head coach Dave Springer is certainly familiar with Millersville. Springer, now in his 10th year at Ship, led Millersville as an interim head coach in 1996-97, posting an 11-15 record overall record and going 5-7 in the PSAC East.
