THE STARTING FIVE
(1) Millersville hits the road to try to snap a six-game slide that dates to Nov. 19. During that stretch, Millersville has lost four games by single digits, and the team held a halftime or second half lead in four of the losses as well. This is the first season that the PSAC has played a full crossover schedule, but Millersville has started league play 0-4 just twice before (2008-09 and 1980-81). The road has also been unkind to Millersville. Over the last four seasons, Millersville is 8-33 on the road and 5-23 against PSAC teams.
(2) Millersville might struggle away from home, but it has dominated the all-time series with Lock Haven by a 53-16 margin and
Fred Thompson is 11-1 all-time against the Bald Eagles with the only loss coming by a 74-71 margin in 2000. Last season, Millersville defeated Lock Haven twice at Pucillo Gymnasium by scores of 77-60 and 87-52.
Mike Holley led Millersville in scoring in both games. The Marauders made 5-of-8 threes in the second meeting. Thompson also has Edinboro's number, winning nine of 13 meetings. Millersville won at Pucillo Gymnasium last season by a 68-63 score. Millersville trailed by 15 with 11:51 to go but rallied with an 18-2 run over seven minutes. Thompson and Greg Walcavich have met in the postseason four times with each winning two.
(3) Mike Seibert is coming off his best two-game stretch of the season, scoring 20 against Gannon and 19 against Clarion. Saturday's 20-point effort was the fifth of his career. He had three 20-point games last season and only once did he follow it with double figures in the next game. He shot 47.8 percent from the field in the two games and 40.0 percent from three. He's also played 30-plus minutes in every game this year and is the only player to have done so.
(4) A key match-up for Millersville against Ediinboro will be
Elijah Obade against Bryan Theriot in the post. Theriot is the PSAC leader in scoring, but Obade is tops in the PSAC in blocked shots and has swatted at least three shots in four different games. He's also becoming a much more consistent producer. Last season, he scored in double figures just three times and grabbed 10 rebounds just once. He has four double figure performances this year and three games of 10 or more rebounds. He ranks fifth in the league in rebounding.
(5) Millersville's scoring offense ranks eighth in the league with 76.2 points per game. The team hasn't averaged that many points per game since the 2006-07 season. Newcomer
Larry Grant is the catalyst, averaging 17.0 points per game and ranking 10th in the PSAC. His 3.5 assists per game are tied for 12th. He and Gannon's Adam Blazek are the only two players in the league to rank in the top 15 in both categories.
ABOUT THE BALD EAGLES
· Lock Haven is in its first season under Mike Nestor, who was a long-time assistant at Shippensburg under Dave Springer. Nestor served as an assistant at the PSAC rival From 2000-2011. From 2004-2007, Nestor helped develop PSAC West Player of the Year Chuck Davis and Shippensburg reached the PSAC playoffs three years in a row. Nestor also played at Ship from 1995-99. Lock Haven went 1-24 last year and 0-14 in the PSAC. It has not had a winning season since 1993 and has not won more than 10 games in a season since 2003. Lock Haven's offense has struggled. It ranks last in the PSAC with 61.4 points per game--nine points fewer than the No. 15 team. The Bald Eagles are competitive, though. Three of its five losses have been by 10 points or fewer. Rebounding is also an issue, as Lock Haven is outrebounded by nearly eight per game. Terrell Johnson leads the team in scoring at 14.0 points per game.
ABOUT THE FIGHTING SCOTS
· Edinboro easily rolled to a 92-61 win over Penn State Greater Allegheny Wednesday to move above .500. The Fighting Scots can score in bunches and averages a league-best 88.6 points per game. Twice Edinboro has scored more than 100 points and five times the team has scored more than 90. Shippensburg and Bloomsburg were the only teams to effectively slow down Edinboro, holding it to under 37 percent shooting in two losses. Center Bryan Theriot has emerged into one of the most dominating players in the league, totaling 22.6 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. He is first in the PSAC in scoring, fourth in rebounding and fifth in field goal percentage. Four players average in double figures. Edinboro is also 2-0 at home but Friday is its first PSAC home game.
