Gannon Edges Marauders in Overtime

Box Score Millersville, Pa. - Millersville led Gannon by as many as 14 in the first half of Saturday's PSAC contest. But the visiting Golden Knights slowly chipped away and scored seven points in the final 30 seconds of regulation to send the game to overtime where they would eventually nip Millersville, 98-97.

Larry Grant scored a career-high 27 points and handed out seven assists for Millersville (2-5, 0-3 PSAC), which has now lost five in a row. Gannon (3-2, 2-1 PSAC) trailed the Marauders 83-77 with 45 seconds left in regulation after a pair of free throws from Grant. Two free throws from Gannon and two from Mike Seibert put the score at 85-79 with 30 seconds to go. Gannon's Oscar Macias hit a quick three, and after Christian Santos hit 1-of-2, Mascias knocked down two more free throws with 19 seconds left to make the score 86-84.

Millersville could not control the ensuing inbounds poass and Gannon took over underneath its own hoop with 10 seconds left. Shameel Carty took the pass and missed his first attempt but gathered his own rebound and scored on a put-back to tie the game at 86. Seibert had a long-range look as time expired but it bounced off the front rim.

Gannon controlled overtime from the tip, receiving a 3-pointer from Brandon Belt 13 seconds into the session. A belt layup made it a five-point game. The Marauders trailed by six until Grant hit a jumper with 47 seconds left. On Gannon's inbounds pass, Mascias was called for an offensive foul, giving Millersvlle the ball. One second later, Seibert was fouled on a 3-point attempt, and he cooly sank all three foul shots to cut Gannon's lead to 98-97 with 46 seconds to go.

Gannon wound the clock to 13 until Stephen Battle missed a 3-pointer that skipped out of bounds. Millersville took over with three seconds to go and Grant, who took the inbounds pass worked his way into the paint but his shot rimmed out. Millersville retained possession with .03 seconds left, but there was time for nothing but a tip, and Gannon broke up the pass to end the game.

It was a physical contest in which the two teams combined for 64 fouls. Two Marauders and five Golden Knights fouled out of the game. Millersville shot 52.5 percent form the field, and Seibert contributed 20 points. He and Grant both sank 8-of-10 from the line. Elijah Obade tallied his first career double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Gannon was led by Darrell Blanton's 21 points and 10 rebounds. Mascias totaled 20.

Millersville hosts Clarion Sunday afternoon at Pucillo Gymnasium. Tip is scheduled for 3 p.m.
