Box Score
Edinboro, Pa. - In the opening minutes of Saturday's PSAC clash between Millersville and Edinboro, it looked as if the Marauders were going to take full advantage of PSAC leading scorer Bryan Theriot's absence. Homestanding Edinboro, however, roared from behind and pulled away for a 73-58 win.
Theriot entered the weekend averaging better than 22 points per game, and Edinboro (6-3, 4-2 PSAC) was the league's top scoring offense. Millersville (3-7, 1-5 PSAC) held the Fighting Scots 15 points below their average but couldn't muster the offense to keep pace, shooting 34.9 percent from the field.
Millersville raced to a 10-0 lead in the first three minutes, sparked by a pair of threes from
Mike Seibert and
Larry Grant. After starting 2-for-2 from three, the Marauders made just one of their next 13 attempts. Free throws from Clint Nicholson got Edinboro rolling.
Nicholson scored 12 of Edinboro's first 14 points, and with 7:32 left in the first half, Corey Somerville scored to give Edinboro its first lead--one it would never relinquish.
The Fighting Scots held a six-point lead at the break and continued to add to it in the second half. With Millersville struggling on offense, Edinboro connected on 15-of-32 shots in the period. The advantage extended to as many as 20 with 7:23 to go.
Millersville used a 19-4 run to narrow the lead to five on a
C.J. Scott layup with 3:47 left, but Sommerville answered right back on the next Edinboro possession to halt the Marauders' run. Millersville managed just two points over the final 3:47.
Grant led Millersville with 18 points on 6-of-20 shooting.
Anthony Coleman added 10. Somerville and Nicholson both scored 19 points.
Millersville is off until Jan. 6 when it travels to California (Pa.).
