THE STARTING FIVE
(1) Millersville fell 80-77 at Wilmington a week ago for its third consecutive loss. On Wednesday, the Marauders try to stop the skid at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. Millersville is 6-0 all-time in series that dates to 2004. All six games have been reasonably close, though, with the widest margin of victory being 16 points in 2007 (69-53). Millersville needed a buzzer beater to send last year's meeting to overtime. Millersville is also trying to avoid its first four-game skid since Dec. 13-Jan. 4 of last season.
(2) Millersville has had at least four players score in double figures in three of its five games, but is in need of more offensive consistency. Sophomore
Jaymes Miller finished 2010-11 with double figures in 13 of the last 15 games. His season high to date is 15 points, but he has hit double figures just twice and is shooting 41.5 percent. The Marauders also need
C.J. Scott to return to the form he displayed in the first two games. Scott averaged 13.5 points, 3.5 assists and just two turnovers in Millersville's wins, but has averaged 4.0 points, 2.3 assists and 3.7 turnovers in the three losses.
(3) Junior center
Elijah Obade turned in a career performance against Wilmington. He matched his career high in points by five with 22 on 9-of-10 shooting. He also grabbed nine rebounds for the second time this seaon and blocked three shots from the second time. He's pulled down nine or more rebounds three times this season, has blocked a shot in every game and has at least one steal in each of the last four games. He scored more than 10 points just three times last season.
(4) With
Jaymes Miller and
Elijah Obade patrolling the paint, the Marauders rank No. 1 in the PSAC in blocked shots at 5.8 per game. East Stroudsburg is No. 2 with 4.3 per game. At 2.4 per game, Miller and Obade are tied for No. 1 in the PSAC. East Stroudsburg, Cheyney and Gannon are the only other teams to have two players ranked in the top 15. Millersville has blocked seven shots in three games and four in the other two. Miller swatted four against Wilmington and has seven blocks in the last two games. If the Marauders maintain that average, they will total 145 by the end of the regular season. The 1988-89 club set the school record with 178 in 34 games.
(5) Millersville's biggest problem in the three consecutive losses is the 3-pointer. The Marauders have hit 17 threes and are shooting 27.0 percent for the season while their opponents have sank 37 at a 41.6 clip. Millersville ranks 14th in the PSAC in 3-point field goal percentage and 15th in 3-point defense. Opponents have shot 48.3 percent from three in Millersville's three losses. In the wins, opponents managed 29.0 percent.
ABOUT THE DEVILS
