Clarion, Pa. - Clarion put on a shooting exhibition in Tuesday's PSAC crossover with Millersville. The homestanding Golden Eagles drilled 12-of-17 3-pointers and fought off a feisty Marauder club for a 85-76 win.
Millersville (3-6) turned in its best shooting effort of the season, hitting 46.8 percent of its shots. But Clarion, which entered the game ranked first in the PSAC in scoring and shooting percentage, remained perfect on the season at 9-0 and handed Millersville its fourth-straight loss in the process behind 29 points from Lloyd Harrison.
Harrison, who sank 6-of-10 threes, led four Golden Eagles in double figures. Jamar Harrison added 20 points. The Marauders kept the game close thanks to another solid offensive effort from
Demond Vance and a career night from
Elijah Obade. Vance, who has now scored double figures in three of his last four games, tallied 17 on 8-of-15 shooting. He also handed out four assists without committing a turnover. Obade recorded 17 points and nine rebounds.
The Marauders battled the Golden Eagles bucket for bucket early. The game was tied five times in the period, and the Marauders held a two-point lead 25-23 lead with 7:45 to go following a
Jim Kelleher 3-pointer. Clarion, however, went on a 16-4 run and built a nine-point advantage at the break.
Clarion opened the second half with a pair of free throws from Mike Sherry and two threes from Harrison to extend the lead to 15. The Marauders remained pesky, cutting the deficit to 68-62 on a
Mike Seibert three with 7:00 left. Clarion, however, did just enough from the free throw line to hold on for the win.
Along with shooting its highest percentage of the year, Millersville committed a season-low seven turnovers. That came just one night after turning it over 25 times the night before at Gannon.
All four of Millersville's consecutive losses have been on the road, and the team has allowed at least 74 points in each game.
The Marauders return to Pucillo Gymnasium--where they are 3-1 this year--on Saturday to take on Lock Haven at 3 p.m.
