Kutztown, Pa. — Just like in last season's home finale, the Millersville women's soccer team went in search of an upset against a nationally-ranked Kutztown squad. Carolynne Kahl denied the Marauders' bid on Saturday, however, as her goal with 1:37 remaining in regulation helped the 15th-ranked Golden Bears eke out a 1-0 victory at Keystone Field.
Millersville (0-5-1, 0-3-1 PSAC) keeper
Kelsey Benson was strong all afternoon making five saves in defeat. It was Kutztown (5-1, 3-1 PSAC) that carried much of the play, though. The Golden Bears had 10 shots to Millersville's two and had seven corner kicks to the Marauders' three.
Lauren Thomas had Millersville's only shot on goal, while
Niki Roberts came off the bench to register a shot.
Kahl was the only player on either side to take multiple shots in the game, as she put two on net. Her late tally was set up by a Maria Borland pass. Kahl's goal came at the 88:23 mark and left Millersville with little chance to rally.
Casey Behrendt made one save in 90 minutes of action to pick up the shutout for KU.
Millersville returns to the pitch Wednesday at 7:30 when it takes on Bloomsburg in PSAC action.
