Men's Tennis Edges Mercyhurst, 5-4

Erie, Pa. - Over the last two years, Millersville and Mercyhurst men's tennis teams have formed quite a competitive rivalry. Saturday's match in Erie, Pa., continued that trend with Millersville squeaking past the homestanding Lakers, 5-4.

Since 2008, Millersville and Mercyhurst have met four times and each match has been decided by two points or less, and three of the matches were by a 5-4 score. After Saturday's, the two teams have split the last four matches.

Millersville (1-0) earned the win on the strength of two doubles victories. The No. 2 team of Donald Swantko and Ryan Knarr defeated Adam Marnik and Omar Amnouni, 8-6, and the No. 3 team of Henry Ben and Erik Wright picked up an 8-2 victory over Eric Drusko and Spencer Kilpatrick.

The two squads split the singles matches with three wins apiece. Slocum grabbed a win in the No. 2 slot by defeating Amnouni, 7-5, 6-3. Knarr and Ben, playing at No. 5 and No. 6 respectively, salvaged the match for the Marauders with convincing victories. Knarr won, 6-1, 6-0, and Ben rolled past Drusko, 6-2, 6-1.

On Monday, Millersville travels to Bel Air, Md., to face Harford Community College.
