Millersville, Pa. - Freshman
Alexis Sutton put the Millersville women's soccer team in front early in the second half, but Mansfield's Katelyn Smoker tied the game with just over seven minutes left in regulation. After two extra sessions, the PSAC contest held at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium Wednesday evening ended in a 1-1 tie.
Following a scoreless first half of play, Sutton scored her first career goal by collecting a loose ball in the box and pushing it past Mansfield (1-3-1, 0-2-1 PSAC) goalkeeper Samantha DeLiere in the 56th minute. The goal was Millersville's first since its season opener and snapped a scoreless drought of 357:05.
With eight minutes to go, Millersville (0-4-1, 0-2-1 PSAC) appeared to have its first win of the season in hand, but Mansfield fired three shots at Millersville keeper
Kelsey Benson in a span of three minutes and the third—a shot by Smoker and pass from Kariann Breed—found the back of the net and tied the game.
Neither team managed a shot the rest of regulation, and while Mansfield out-shot the Marauders 4-1 in the two overtimes, only one of the shots was on goal.
Benson finished with five saves, and her counterpart DeLiere stopped three shots.
Millersville travels to Kutztown on Saturday, Sept. 18 for a PSAC match-up. Game time is 2 p.m.
