Erie, Pa. - The Millersville men's and women's tennis programs traveled to Erie, Pa., Saturday for matches against Mercyhurst. The men, starting PSAC action, were edged by a close 5-4 score. The Marauder women, competing in a league crossover, lost by an 8-1 count.
The men's dual was a rematch of last year's PSAC Championship third-place match. The two squads split a pair of tightly contested matches last year and it was a similar result Saturday. The Marauders (2-5, 0-1 PSAC) controlled doubles, winning two of the three matches.
Tyler Reppert and
Erik Wright teamed to win 9-7 in the No. 2 slot, and
Donald Swantko and
Henry Ben won 8-5 at No. 3.
Swantko and Wright also won easily at No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively. Mercyhurst's Keith Whittingham (No. 1) and Kyle King (No. 3) also rolled. While the Marauders held a 4-3 advantage, Mercyhurst won the final two matches still playing--both in three sets.
Mercyhurst improved to 8-8 overall and 2-2 in the PSAC with the win.
Millersville's women's team managed to take only one point from the homestanding Lakers. Mercyhurst boosted its mark to 14-5 while the Marauders dropped to 4-6.
