Blake's Career High Not Enough in Loss to Mansfield

Box Score

Millersville, Pa. - Playing his final game in a Millersville uniform, senior Jason Blake turned in a career performance, scoring 23 points and grabbing seven rebounds. But Mansfield, needing a win to clinch the PSAC Eastern Division, had plenty of incentive and proved too much for the homestanding Marauders. Mansfield received 30 points from Ryan Callahan and earned the top seed in the upcoming PSAC Tournament by topping the Marauders, 76-68.

Blake, wanting to go out a winner, rallied Millersville (8-19, 3-11 PSAC East) from a 13-point halftime deficit by scoring 17 of his 23 and recording all seven of his rebounds in the second half. The Marauders trailed by as many as 15 before Blake ignited a 12-3 run with a 3-pointer. Mike Seibert's lay-up was answered by a Callahan jumper, but Seibert came right back with a three of his own, pulling Millersville within 51-48 with 11:01 to go.

Seibert had an opportunity to tie the game on Millersville's next possession, but the transition 3-pointer rimmed out, and Mansfield regain its composure, scoring five unanswered to build the lead back to eight. By the 3:55 mark, Mansfield had boosted its lead back to 15.

Millersville had one last gasp, though. Mansfield's lead was trimmed to five after a thunderous Blake dunk and a Palmer McDurfee steal and lay-up. Millersville stopped the clock with fouls, and Callahan and Justin Simmons combined to hit 4-of-4 in the final minute to preserve the PSAC East title for Mansfield.

Mansfield improved to 19-8 and 10-4 in the PSAC East with the win. Callahan was nearly perfect from long range, hitting 5-of-7 from three and 5-of-6 from the line. Yuseff Carr added 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting.

Millersville senior Alen Ahmetovic scored 10 points and grabbed six boards for the Marauders, and Seibert added 13.

Mansfield hosts Kutztown in the first round of the PSAC Tournament Tuesday. Millersville's season ends without a postseason appearance for just the fifth time in Fred Thompson's 12-year tenure.
