Cheyney Shoots Lights Out of Pucillo

Box Score

Millersville, Pa. - The Cheyney Wolves continued their recent roll Wednesday in Pucillo Gymnasium, drilling 13 3-pointers and shooting 60 percent from the floor in handing the homestanding Marauders an 88-74 defeat.

Cheyney (15-9, 8-3 PSAC East), winners of seven of its last eight, shot 9-of-15 from 3-point range in the first half, putting the Marauders (8-16, 3-8 PSAC East) down 40-21 at the mid-way point. The shooting exhibition continued in the second with the Wolves hitting 19-of-28 shots from the field.

Millersville trailed by as many as 25 in the first half and fell behind by 27 on a Sharif Bray 3-pointer with 14:42 remaining in the game. Despite the deficit, the Marauders battled valiantly late, scoring 53 second-half points. Sophomore Brandon Widener cut loose in the second half, scoring 10 of his 12 points and grabbing eight rebounds--four of which were on the offensive glass.

Freshman Christian Santos also provided a spark for the Marauders, scoring a career-high 11 points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field and 4-of-6 shooting from the line. Mike Seibert, one game removed from a career-high 25 points, scored all 10 of his points in the second half.

The Marauders hoisted up a  season-high 74 field goal attempts, pulled down a season-best 23 offensive rebounds and committed only 11 turnovers to Cheyney's 17. But the Wolves shooting was too much to overcome. Bray, the second leading scorer in the PSAC, totaled 24 points and six assists. Kevin Presberry turned in an efficient performance of 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting and 11 rebounds.
