Millersville, Pa. – For the second time in as many matches, the Millersville women's volleyball team held a 1-0 advantage over its opponents but saw its competition rally to win the next three sets and steal the victory right from its hands. Friday evening the Marauders fell to West Chester 3-1 in Pucillo Gymnasium by scores of 23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-20.
In the first set, Millersville (10-15, 1-11 PSAC) held the upper hand by at least one point for the majority of action. The Golden Rams (16-7, 5-7 PSAC) showed their resiliency, however, battling back from an eventual 15-11 deficit to tie the score at 16-16--one of nine ties throughout the set. With a knotted score at 23-23, West Chester committed two attack errors to hand Millersville the set victory.
It was the Golden Rams who controlled the tempo of set two, not conceding the lead to the Marauders once throughout play. After a 14-14 draw and a West Chester timeout, the Golden Rams exploded, racking up six of the next eight points to take a four-point lead. West Chester only extended its lead from there, winning the set by seven tallies.
The squads swapped points during the third set, totaling five lead changes and nine tie scores. Millersville held an 18-15 advantage when 
Allison Huss slammed two consecutive service aces, but West Chester turn on a scoring switch that the Marauders could not match. 
Down 19-18, the Golden Rams registered five points to take a 22-19 lead. A Marauder service error and two West Chester kills sealed the set victory for the visitors. 
The clubs continued to battle throughout the fourth set, just as they had been the entire match. As in set two, West Chester always maintained a slight advantage and never gave up the lead. 
Millersville saw itself down by five at 23-18 with the match on the line, and knocked in two points to shorten the deficit to 23-20. West Chester matched the Marauders' two points with two of its own, however, to win the set and the match.
The Golden Rams' Lexi Kegerise led all scorers with 15 kills, while Kelly Martin, Michelle Powers and Julie Boblits chipped in 10 kills apiece.
Huss led the Marauder offense with 11 kills and 
Alyssa Ott added eight. 
Jessica Franz put up 19 assists for Millersville while 
Katie Pisano tallied 12.
Sue Caramanico fronted Millersville's defense as she collected 20 digs, and Huss registered 10 of her own. 
Mary Paul boasted four blocks while Ott and 
Rebecca Roman both totaled three.
The Marauders return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 20 when they host a non-conference matchup with Shepherd. Action is scheduled for 6 p.m.
