Marauders Run Out of Gas in Loss to California (Pa.)

Box Score

California, Pa. - At the half, Millersville was poised to down California (Pa.) and snap its four-game skid. But the Marauders managed just 13 second half points and produced its lowest point total since 1950 in 59-40 road defeat.

After a 5-1 start to the season, the Marauders have dropped five in a row--four of which have come on the road. Millersville (5-6) entered Saturday's game not having scored 60 points in three of the last four and the offensive woes hit a new low as it shot 4-of-18 in the second half after a 10-for-20 first half and committed 28 turnovers--the most of Fred Thompson's 12-year tenure.

Mike Seibert was Millersville's lone double-figure scorer with 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting, but all 14 points came in the first half, and he came up empty on three second half shots.

The Vulcans (8-3), which shot 39.7 percent, was not much better on the offensive end, but made nearly as many field goals in the second half--12--as the Marauders scored points.

Millersville led 27-25 at the half and took a 36-34 advantageon two Guye Weber free throws with 14:09 left. California went on an 11-0 run over the next four minutes to take the lead, but Nigel Davis pulled Millersville within 46-40 with 8:15 left in the game after hitting one-of-two free throws. That, however, would be Millersville's last point as missed six shots and committed seven turnovers in its final 13 possessions.

The Marauders return to Pucillo Gymnasium for the first time since Dec. 14 this weekend when they host Slippery Rock on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 3 p.m.
