Indiana, Pa. - The Millersville men's basketball team trailed No. 4 Indiana (Pa.) by just five at halftime of Saturday's PSAC Crossover contest. But the offensive struggles that have hampered the Marauders lately caused them to fall to the homestanding Crimson Hawks, 68-54.
For the third time in four games, the Marauders failed to score 60 points and for the fourth time in a row, the Marauders lost. The Marauders fell to 5-5 overall, IUP stayed perfect and improved to 9-0.
In the opening 20 minutes, Millersville shot 10-of-23 from the field, 4-of-6 from deep and had four players score at least five points.
Jason Blake's 3-pointer as time ticked off the clock put the Marauders within 29-24. But none of that momentum would carry into the second half.
Millersville failed to hit a field goal in the first eight minutes of the second period, committing seven turnovers and missing its first five shots. During which time IUP boosted the advantage to 45-25 using a 16-1 run.
The drought was broken by
Mike Seibert's deep 3-pointer, but it was far too little too late for an offense that entered Saturday's contested averaging 65 points per game. With five points apiece during a four-minute span, Seibert and
Nigel Davis helped the Marauders crawl within 12 with 8:43 left. Immediately, however, IUP strung together an 8-0 run to boost the advantage back to 20.
The Marauders shot 18-of-43 on the game and committed 22 turnovers, giving them 62 miscues in the last three games. During the four-game skid, the Marauders are averaging 57.8 points per game on 37 percent shooting.
Redshirt freshman
Guye Weber led the Marauders in scoring for the second straight game. He scored 12 points on three 3-pointers and three free throws. Seibert chipped in 10 points.
Millersville completes its four-game road swing Sunday at California (Pa.). Tip is scheduled for 1 p.m.
