West Chester Shuts Down Marauders

West Chester, Pa. — West Chester scored three times in the second half and Millersville was held without a shot on goal, as the women's soccer team fell 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon in West Chester.

Freshman Brandi Tipton drew her first career start at goalkeeper for the Marauders (1-4, 0-3 PSAC East), and helped keep the Golden Rams (3-1, 2-1 PSAC East) off the scoreboard for more than 67 minutes.

West Chester fired six shots (four on goal) from the 63rd to the 68th minutes and finally found the ice-breaker at 67:48. Jen Hutchinson got WCU on the board with an unassisted tally. Teammate Lara Bodenstab quickly followed with a goal just over four minutes later, which made it 2-0.

The Golden Rams dominated stretches of play for a majority of the second half. The home team got its final goal of the day with seven seconds remaining, as Ashley Kershaw deposited a Heather Manorek pass into the net for a 3-0 final score.

Tipton made four saves in defeat and kept the Marauders in it for the better part of the game. Millersville could muster no shots on goal, with its only shot of the day going wide off the foot of Sarah Cameron at the 88:13 mark.

Millersville will return to action on Saturday afternoon against non-conference foe Le Moyne. Game time is set for noon.
