Marauders Overpowered by Kutztown

Box Score

Kutztown, Pa. — Shannon Pennock scored twice and Kutztown's offense had the green light, as the Golden Bears handed the visiting Millersville women's soccer team its most lopsided defeat of the season, 6-0, on Tuesday afternoon.

Kelly Busche and Pennock both came up with unassisted first half goals, propelling the Golden Bears (6-2-1, 4-1-1 PSAC East) to a 2-0 halftime lead. The home team fired 11 shots in the first 45 minutes, while the Marauders (2-7, 1-5 PSAC East) could manage just two.

Kutztown, which received votes in the latest NSCAA/adidas Division II poll, built its lead to 5-0 with three goals over a span of 12 minutes. Rhea Weaver (56th minute), Pennock (61st minute), and Molly Cooper (68th minute) did the damage in putting KU comfortably ahead. Emily Froehlich finished off the scoring with an unassisted tally in the 74th minute.

Millersville was able to generate some second half offense, taking 10 shots, but Kutztown keeper Alyssa Hackelberg made saves on all six shots she faced in 85+ minutes. Backup Kristin Mann registered two saves in 4:15 of work.

Allison Snyder and Brianna Pham each recorded two shots for Millersville, which has been held scoreless in four of its last five games. Taylor Suskie made 4 saves, but allowed six goals before giving way to Brandi Tipton. Tipton did not allow a goal or record a save in nearly 15 minutes of action.

The Marauders return home on Saturday to face PSAC Western Division foe Slippery Rock at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium. Game time is 12 p.m.
