East Stroudsburg, Pa. — Five unanswered goals doomed the Millersville women's soccer team as it fell 5-2, in its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener at East Stroudsburg on Wednesday evening.
The Warriors (3-1, 1-0 PSAC East) came out buzzing in the first half. Marissa Spitler put the home team up 1-0, just 3:17 into the game and ESU never looked back. Over the next 24 minutes, the red-clad ladies found the twine twice more. Kailyn Buckley finished a feed from Devon Miniscalo in the 16th minute to make it 2-0 and Ashley McKenna followed suit in the 28th minute by bagging her second goal of the season. Lindsay Foder picked up a helper as East Stroudsburg stormed into the locker room with a 3-0 halftime advantage.
The goals kept coming for the Warriors in the second half. With just over nine minutes gone, Spitler scored another unassisted goal to run the lead to 4-0. The freshman has impressed early on, recording 13 points (6 goals, 1 assist) in her first four games with ESU.
Miniscalo gave herself a multi-point night with the fifth Warrior goal in the 67th minute. Rebecca Porcaro assisted on the tally. Millersville (1-2, 0-1 PSAC East) would finally get on the board in the 70th minute, as freshman and Penn Manor graduate
Brianna Pham buried a 45 yard direct kick into the back of the net. It was the first collegiate goal of Pham's career.
Chrissy McLaughlin scored her first career goal in the 89th minute to cut the lead to 5-2.
Jenna Lininger got the assist on McLaughlin's first, giving Lininger three assists in the last two contests.
Taylor Suskie faced a multitude of shots in net for the Marauders, making eight saves in defeat. The women return to action Saturday evening when they host Bloomsburg at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium at 5 p.m.
