Last Minute Goal Gives Marauders Win

Box Score

Millersville, Pa. — Offense has been tough to come by for the Millersville women's soccer team this season, but consistent offensive pressure paid off on Saturday afternoon when Alison Silva scored with 48 seconds left in regulation to lift the Marauders to a 1-0 PSAC Eastern Division win over Shippensburg at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.

Stagnant in its last few outings, the Millersville (2-6, 1-4 PSAC East) offense sprung to life against the Lady Raiders (1-4-2, 1-2-2 PSAC East). Shippensburg held a 13-6 shot advantage in the first half, but sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Suskie stood tall, making six saves on all six shots on goal. Suskie's counterpart, Beth Long, made three saves to keep the Marauders off the board heading to halftime.

Millersville would start to bring more pressure in the second half. The Black and Gold outshot Shippensburg 7-5 and controlled possession in the offensive zone for the better part of the half. The Lady Raiders were led by Gayle Kuntzmann, who took a game-high seven shots (five on goal).

The Marauders finally broke through in the 90th minute as Silva headed home an Olivia Taylor pass for her first goal of the season. Taylor carried the ball to the end line before finding Silva, who's header just made it over the outstretched arms of Long.

Millersville was outshot for the game, 18-13, but put home the shot that mattered. Suskie made 10 saves in the game for the Marauders, while Long made six in defeat for the Lady Raiders. The game was also cleanly played, featuring just 13 fouls between the two teams.

Tuesday afternoon the Marauders are back in action at nationally-ranked Kutztown. Game time is 3 p.m.
