Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville women's tennis team continued its impressive start to the 2009 season with a 7-2 victory over PSAC foe Shippensburg Friday afternoon.

The match did not count toward conference standings, but Millersville won for the second time in two matches this season. It marks the second straight year the Marauders have started 2-0. Led by strong play at the top of the lineup, the Marauders took two of three doubles matches and five of the six in singles.

Andrea Konas and Melissa Plowman teamed for the first time at No. 1 doubles and cruised to an 8-4 victory over Jackie Kramer and Jess Lodek. Sam Prager and Shauna Powers cruised 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Shippensburg's Ali Horvath and Cassie Sidone picked up the Lady Raiders' first point by edging Michelle DeStefano and Katrina Wagner 9-7 at No. 3.

Prager, Konas and Plowman were impressed in the first three slots. Prager won 6-4, 6-4 over Kramer, and Konas breezed past Horvath, 6-1, 6-0. Plowman, who won 6-0, 6-0 in her first collegiate match last Sunday, rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lodek.

Amanda Carello also notched a convincing 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles. DeStefano used the super tiebreaker to get past Monica Berardi in the No. 5 spot. She took the first set 7-5, dropped the second 2-6, but won 10-7 in the super tiebreaker.

Millersville hosts a pair of matches Saturday afternoon at McComsey Tennis Courts. Millersville takes on La Salle at 11 a.m., and then faces defending PSAC Champion California (Pa.) at 4 p.m.
