Late Goal Sinks Marauders

Box Score

Philadelphia, Pa. —
Dana Rokoszak's goal with just under two minutes to play propelled Philadelphia to a 2-1 win over the Millersville women's soccer team in the opener for both teams on Thursday night in Philadelphia.

The Rams (1-0) struck once in each half, picking up a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute on a goal from Trisha Sileo. Gabrielle Haden would pick up a helper on the goal and Philadelphia carried the 1-0 lead for the next 54 minutes and change.

Millersville (0-1) found offense tough to come by, meanwhile. The Marauders managed just two shots on goal in the first half. Shortly after a Niki Roberts corner kick, freshman Lindsay Malpass would finally break through with the squad's first goal of the season and the first goal of her collegiate career in the 73rd minute. The tally was unassisted and gave the Black and Gold some much needed momentum.

Philadelphia peppered keeper Taylor Suskie throughout the second half, but the sophomore, playing her first ever game in goal for the Marauders, stood tall. Unfortunately for the Marauders, Rokoszak would net the game-winner at 88:19, just three minutes after checking into the game.

Millersville would get a late shot from Brianna Pham, but it was turned away by Rams' keeper Kelli Kowalewski. Suskie made 11 saves in defeat, as the Marauders dropped their third opener in the last four seasons.

The women's soccer team returns to action Monday evening when it hosts Goldey-Beacom in a non-conference match at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium. Game time is 6 p.m.
