Bloomsburg, Pa. - The Millersville University men's tennis team lost its bid for third place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Team Championship Saturday, dropping a 5-3 heart-breaker to the Mercyhurst Lakers.

The Marauders took two out of three doubles matches, but lost four straight singles matches to put the Lakers up 5-3. One of the singles matches was left uncompleted -- Millersville's Henry Ben vs. Mercyhurst's Adam Marnik. In an effort to speed up the time of the competition, PSAC officials call the match as soon as the winning team earns enough points to clinch the victory. Therefore, the remaining match in progress at the time Mercyhurst won its fifth point was halted.

The Marauders finish the season with an overall record of 11-8 and a conference record of 3-3. At the end of the 2008-09 regular season, Millersville's men's team finishes fourth in the PSAC.

In singles play, the Marauders have three players who notched 10 wins or more over the 2009 season. Senior Dusty Speicher finishes 11-8, Sophomore Drew Slocum who played at the No. 1 spot, finishes the season 10-10 and Andrew Sorgi finishes 10-7.

In doubles matches, the Marauders boast one 11-2 team -- #Donald Swantko and Ben, one 11-8 team -- Slocum and Sorgi and one 10-9 team -- Speicher and Mark Treires. The Marauders finished the season with 37 doubles match victories against just 26 losses.

While this ends the season for the Marauders in the PSAC, there is an outside chance they may earn an at-large berth in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Championships.
