Kutztown, Pa. -- The Millersville women's tennis team finished fifth in the PSAC East Sunday as they ended their season with a 2-7 loss to the Kutztown Golden Bears. The Marauders' 2009 season record will stand at 7-11 overall and 1-4 in conference matchups.
Senior
Jenny Habecker gutted out a grueling three-set match to notch the only singles victory of the day for the Marauders as she beat Kutztown's Tess Wright 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 10-4.
Over the course of the season, the Marauders have tried a wide variety of doubles pairings to find the right chemistry. Sunday, the combination of
Kaeley McCabe and
Samantha Souders turned out to be a winning combination as they ended the season with a doubles-match victory in their defeat of Kutztown's Shir Suez and Wright.
At season's end, Bloomsburg captures the top spot in the PSAC East, finishing with a 6-0 inter-conference record and an overall season record of 12-4. Kutztown finishes second in the East with a 10-4 overall record, 4-1 in conference play. East Stroudsburg and West Chester, both 2-3 in the conference, are third and fourth in the PSAC East respectively. Below Millersville, in the sixth and final spot is Cheney, which is having a lousy season, going 0-4 in the conference and 0-7 overall.
