Kutztown, Pa. -- Despite finishing the regular season with an 0-9 loss against top-ranked Kutztown Sunday, the Millersville men's tennis team clinched third place in the conference and will turn its attention to performing well in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships Friday and Saturday.
In singles play, three Marauders notched 10-win seasons. Sophomore
Drew Slocum, who played at the No. 1 spot, finished the season 10-9, while Junior
Andrew Sorgi and senior
Dusty Speicher both finished 10-6. Overall Millersville finished the season with 61 singles match wins and 54 losses.
In doubles matches, the Marauders boast two 10-8 teams -- Slocum and Sorgi and Speicher and
Mark Treires. The Marauders finished with 34 doubles match victories against 23 losses.
At the end of the regular season, Millersville's men's team finishes with just two teams ahead of it in the conference. Kutztown University captured the PSAC title, going 5-0 against conference rivals during the season and finishing with an overall 11-4 record. Bloomsburg finished second, going 10-5 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
Mercyhurst, East Stroudburg and West Chester rounded out the bottom of the conference, placing fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. Although West Chester has two more dual matches to play and Bloomsburg has one more, the PSAC standings are unlikely to change since all inter-conference matches are finished for the season.
The conference championship matches are scheduled for April 24 and 25 in Shippensburg.
