Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville men's tennis team picked up its sixth win in a row Friday by handing University of the District of Columbia a 9-0 defeat. The Marauders are 7-3 on the season and 6-1 in team matches played since March 1.
The Marauders needed only four matches to claim victory in singles play, and two in doubles, since UDC had to forfeit three matches.
Millersville's No. 1,
Drew Slocum, defeated UDC's Arda Kaytan, but the Firebird proved to be a challenge for Slocum, taking the Marauder into a grueling first-set tie-breaker. Slocum, proved to be the better player, however, and fended off Kaytan's attempts 7-6 (11-9), 7-5.
The rest of the Marauders' victories were more decisive.
Don Swantko won his match 6-3, 6-3,
Andrew Sorgi cruised to victory 6-0, 6-0, and
Marty O'Hora finished the singles sweep by winning 8-0 over his challenger.
Both doubles matches were wildly one sided, with
Dusty Speicher and Mark Treiers earning an 8-3 victory, and
Tyler Lied and
Colton Brown earning their win by a score of 8-1.
