Shippensburg, Pa. - The Millersville men's basketball team entered Wednesday's PSAC East clash with Shippensburg looking for a third-straight victory, but the Marauders couldn't get their offense in rhythm and fell, 74-45.
For Millersville, it was its lowest point total of the season.
Makal Stibbins turned in an outstanding effort of 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting and also tallied nine rebounds and three blocks. Senior
Alen Ahmetovic tossed in a career-high eight points on 3-of-3 shooting as well. But the rest of the team combined to shoot 6-of-32. The Marauders hit just two 3-pointers on 18 attempts.
The loss snapped MIllersville's two-game winning streak and dropped its record to 8-14 overall and 2-7 in the PSAC East. Shippensburg evened its record at 11-11 and improved 3-6 in league play.
While the Marauders couldn't get any shots to fall, Shippensburg couldn't miss. The homestanding Red Raiders 62.8 percent of their shots on the game including 16-of-22 from the field and 5-of-7 from 3-point range in the second half alone.
Despite the offensive woes, Millersville managed to stay close early. With 4:05 left in the first half, Stibbins scored on a lay-up to give the Marauders a 24-23 lead. The Marauders, however, would go scoreless for the rest of the half, and Shippensburg rattled off seven-straight including a 3-pointer by Jaren Gembe just before the buzzer.
Millersville bounced back by scoring the first four points of the second half, cutting Ship's lead to 31-28, but a 12-2 Ship run of the next five minutes put Millersville out of reach.
Stibbins led all scorers in the game, and his 22-point effort was the second 20-point game of his career. It was also the 14th time this season he has pulled down more than eight rebounds.
Palmer McDurfee also added nine points, two assists and two steals.
Millersville will need to rebound quickly as the top team in the PSAC East, Kutztown, invades Pucillo Gymnasium Saturday at 3 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to support the WBCA Pink Zone event taking place.
