
Women's Swimming Defeats York, Improves to 3-0

Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville women's swim team won its third dual meet of the season, defeating York by a score of 117.5-87.5 in Pucillo Natatorium Saturday afternoon.
In a team effort that involved 17 top-three finishes from both sprint and distance swimmers, the Marauders pulled out a victory to improve to 3-0 on the season. The 400-yard medley relay team set the pace for the Marauders, earning top honors with a time of 4:14.84.
In the meet's second event, freshman Laura Castello earned first place in the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:36.54. In the 200-yard freestyle, sophomore Vick DeTample finished third, followed by freshmen Christine Neville in fifth and Maribeth Jaeske in sixth.
Freshmen standouts Sarah Bernhardt and Sara Steinagel earned finished first and second, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle with times of 25.59 and 26.08 seconds. Bernhardt also took first in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.20 seconds, followed by sophomore Amie Mowery in second in 57.59 seconds.
The Marauders took the top three places in the 200-yard individual medley, with freshman Kelsie Jones finishing first (2:18.49), freshman Arielle Walbert in second (2:19.40) and Mowery finishing third (2:20.72). Jones and Walbert also took second and third places in the 200-yard backstroke.
Castello earned her second victory of the day in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:39.33. Walbert finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:39.12, followed by junior Courtney Wallace in third and senior Becca Laufer in fourth. The 400-yard freestyle relay squads finished second and third with times of 3:52.26 and 4:11.83.
The women's swim team returns to the pool on Saturday, Jan 23. when it hosts East Stroudsburg at 1 p.m.
