Marauders Grind Out Road Win to Improve to 3-0

Box Score

Philadelphia, Pa. -
Points were tough to come by, but Millersville got them when it needed it most and gutted out a hard-fought 61-50 victory at University of Sciences in Philadelphia Wednesday evening.

Millersville improved to 3-0 on the season and 3-0 all-time against USP with the victory. It was Millersville's first road test of the season, and it passed thanks to its defense that held USP to 18-of-45 shooting from the field and 2-of-9 from 3-point range.

The offensive attack featured a balanced scoring effort led by three players in double figures. Senior Palmer McDurfee scored 12 points, hitting 7-of-9 from the free throw stripe. Mike Seibert came off the bench to score 11 points, and he also tallied three assists. Newcomer Jim Kelleher dropped a career-high nine, including three 3-pointers that helped the Marauders crack a frustratingly stingy USP zone in the first half.

Senior Jason Blake not only scored in double figures for the third time in as many games with 10, but he continued to provide a playmaking presence that helped the Marauders pull away late.

Blake was the hero of the C.W. Post victory Saturday, scoring the game-tying hoop at the end of regulation and the go-ahead points in overtime. On Wednesday, with the Marauders nursing a 45-44 with nearly seven minutes remaining, Blake slashed into the paint and created an easy lay-up for Nigel Davis. On the next two possessions he hit a floater for two and then knocked down his only two free throw attempts of the evening to cap a Marauder run that opened a close game into an 11-point victory.

With Blake's production on offense, Alen Ahmetovic provided the toughness on defense. The senior came off the bench and played a rough-and-tumble 23 minutes in which he scored six points, recorded a season-high seven rebounds and made two steals. Not seen on the stat sheet was his inside defense and effort after loose balls that gave the Marauders second opportunities late in the second half.

Millersville is 3-0 for just the fourth time in Fred Thompson's 12-year tenure. It will look to jump to 4-0 on Saturday at Pucillo Gymnasium when it hosts Philadelphia at 3 p.m.
