Marauders Upend No. 14 Kutztown in Double Overtime

Box Score

Millersville, Pa. — Olivia Taylor knocked home a loose ball with 15 seconds remaining in double overtime to send the Millersville women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory —its third straight— over fourteenth-ranked Kutztown on Wednesday night at Chryst Field.

Senior midfielder Sarah Cameron made the most of her final home game as a Marauder, scoring her third goal of the season off of a pass from Chrissy McLaughlin just before halftime. Cameron's goal at 42:18 gave Millersville (6-11-1, 3-7-1 PSAC East) a 1-0 lead that they would hold for the better part of the next 25 minutes.

Taylor Suskie looked like she might steal a win in regulation for the Marauders. With 34 minutes to play, Suskie came out of her goal to cut down a quality scoring chance by Kutztown's Stephanie Barnett.

Midway through the second half the relentless Golden Bears (12-4-2, 7-3-1 PSAC East) finally knotted the game. Julia DiFerdinando fed Barnett, who raced behind the Marauder defense. One Millersville defender tried to stay draped on Barnett, but she was able to elude the defensive effort and slip a shot by Suskie at 65:13.

The two teams played through a scoreless first overtime, with neither team registering a shot on goal. Kutztown got one shot in the second overtime, while the Marauders got two, the second one being the most important one of the game.

With the clock winding down, Brianna Pham teed up a corner kick which sailed into the box. The ball was knocked around, eventually finding its way from the foot of Lauren Thomas to the foot of Taylor who placed it to the lower left corner past Kutztown keeper Alyssa Hackelberg at 109:45.

The goal was Taylor's team-leading fifth of the season and Millersville cemented its first three-game winning streak since 2004.

The Black and Gold wraps up its 2009 campaign on Saturday at Shippensburg.
