Men's Soccer Notches Record-Breaking 11th Shutout

Box Score

Shepherdstown, W.Va. — The second-ranked Millersville men's soccer team went 90 minutes without allowing a goal for the 11th time this season and broke the school's single-season shutout record in the process, blanking Shepherd 3-0 at Shepherdstown, W.Va., on Wednesday afternoon.

Reigning PSAC Eastern Division Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week, Matt Langione, helped secure the Black and Gold's fourth shutout in its last five games. Langione made a save on the only shot he faced, registering his 18th career shutout, which is just two shy of Peter Yovino's school-record of 20. The Dallastown product also etched his name into some more Millersville history, tying the school-record for goalkeeping shutouts in a single-season with his ninth. Coincidentally, Ryan Schlegel from the 2002 team, previously stood alone as that record holder. The same 2002 squad that was the school's toughest team to score against for seven years, until Wednesday.

Joseph Chilutti, who picked up his first-career points and multi-point game in last Tuesday's win at UDC, reached another milestone by netting his first career-collegiate goal to open the scoring. Chilutti finished off a Steve Melnick pass at 30:37 to give Millersville (14-1) a first half lead.

Pat Baffuto and Kyle Loughlin, a pair of Jersey boys, put the game out of reach in the second half by scoring goals a minute apart. Baffuto scored his fifth of the year off a feed from Ethan Daubert at 59:00. It was Baffuto's fifth goal of the season and second in as many games. Loughlin, who missed Friday's game against West Chester, made up for the lost time with his team-leading 10th goal of the season. The junior put a free kick past Rams' (5-10) keeper Edgar Lopez Zuniga at 60:00.

The Marauders dominated play throughout the afternoon, holding a 21-4 shot advantage over Shepherd. They also held a 4-1 edge in winning their ninth straight game. Millersville will return to West Virginia on Sunday afternoon to take on West Virginia Wesleyan at 4 p.m.
