Bloomsburg Hands Marauders 64-55 Defeat

Box Score

Bloomsburg, Pa. -
Bloomsburg's Drew Jerry hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer just before halftime, and the home team carried the momentum into the second half, pulling away from Millersville and sending it to its fifth-straight defeat by a 64-55 final score.

Jerry's three left Bloomsburg down 27-25 at intermission. Just under six minutes into the second period, Bloomsburg's Jesse Betar drilled a jumper to tie the game at 35-35 and on the following possession, Michael Varanavage converted a 3-point play, giving the Huskies their first lead since the score was 4-3 just two minutes in. They would never relinquish that lead either as the Marauders hit an offensive dry spell late in the game allowing the Huskies to pull away.

The Marauders (6-11, 0-4) have lost five in a row for the first time since 2005-06 and just the second time since 1982-83. With the win, Bloomsburg snapped its own six-game skid and earned its first PSAC East win of the season, improving to 4-13 overall and 1-3 in the league.

Millersville shot 38.1 percent from the field in the first half, but the offensive woes were more evident in the second, as the Marauders hit just 11-of-37 shots including 1-of-13 from behind the arc. The team managed just three points from the 16:41 mark to the 10:56 mark. During that span, Bloomsburg went from down two points to ahead by as many as five.

Freshman Dan Hoover provided Bloomsburg with a game high 22 points and 12 rebounds. The Marauders were paced by Reggie Bates' 14 points on 6-of-17 shooting. Despite being limited because of foul trouble, Makal Stibbins managed 10 points.

Freshman Cullen Murray-Kemp continued his emergence, scoring 12 points to place him double figures for the fourth time in five games.

Millersville will look to rebound Wednesday evening at Pucillo Gymnasium against PSAC East rival Cheyney. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m. The action can heard on MSBN.
