Box Score
West Chester, Pa. – The Millersville University women's soccer team played nearly perfect on a hot Wednesday afternoon at Ram stadium but made one small mistake that turned out to cost them the game in a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the West Chester Golden Rams in the opening game for both teams in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) eastern division play.
A West Chester corner kick at the 18:56 mark of the first half sailed in front of Millersville goalkeeper Jaime Lancaster but before she could bring it in the ball deflected off of a Millersville defender and flew into the goal for the game's lone score.
West Chester, the defending PSAC eastern division champs and unanimous selection to repeat in the east again this year, could not break the tough Marauder defense that was anchored by Lancaster's six saves.
Millersville managed just five shots on goal compared to 13 for the Rams.
The Marauders will be back in action Friday, September 5, when they host non-conference opponent Concord for a 3 p.m. start. The game can be heard on the new voice for Millersville sports the Marauder Sports Broadcasting Network (MSBN) by following the links on the athletic website.
