Millersville, Pa. – Tempers flew faster than rain at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium Saturday as the Millersville men's soccer team fell to visiting Slippery Rock 2-1 in a PSAC crossover matchup.
The Marauders came into the game undefeated at home, but Saturday's rain plagued match-up was a different story as The Rock was aggressive, taking seven shots on senior goalkeeper Matt Langione and scoring twice. The first goal of the day came when Slippery Rock sophomore midfielder Toby Bowser scored off a cross at the 14:56 mark.
The rest of the first half was an aggressive battle that included five yellow cards and bench clearing altercation. The contest was riddled with fouls as both teams accounted for 31 fouls, 23 of them coming against The Rock.
The Marauders bounced back in the second half when forward Sean McLaughlin scored on a rebound, drilling a shot past Slippery Rock sophomore goalkeeper Greg Blum to tie the game.
Slippery Rock didn't waste time attacking the Millersville zone, but it wasn't until the 66th minute that Jeremy Deighton scored off of a Toby Bowser header to give Slippery Rock the lead for good.
Slippery Rock managed the win despite being outshot 15-7.
Millersville has now lost two consecutive games to PSAC Western Division opponents. The Marauders will look to bounce back against PSAC Eastern Division rival Bloomsburg on Wednesday, Oct. 1. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
