Clarion, Pa. – The Millersville women's tennis team suffered its second straight defeat on Friday afternoon, as the homestanding Golden Eagles of Clarion dealt the Marauders a 5-4 heartbreaking setback.
The Marauders (4-2) entered Friday's match looking to rebound from their first defeat of the season, but couldn't quite get the job done on the road.
The No. 3 doubles team of Jenny Habecker and Samantha Souders came away with the only doubles victory of the afternoon for Millersville, as they defeated Clarion's Megan Parsons and Haylee Gardner 8-6.
Millersville did enjoy success in singles competition however, as No. 3 Lindsay Knappenberger downed Sharayah Campbell in straight sets,6-4, 6-3. The win moved Knappenberger to 4-0 on the season at No. 3 singles and a perfect 6-0 overall.
Souders ran her record to 5-1 in singles play this season, by defeating Gardner 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
Michelle DeStefano notched her first win of the season at No. 6 singles and fourth singles victory overall as she rallied to beat Megan Parsons in three sets by a count of 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The Golden Eagles (2-0) were able to wrap the match up when Devin Rombach defeated Habecker 8-6 in a tiebreaker at No. 4 singles.
The Marauders will again be hoping to capture their fifth win of the season, when they square off against the Indiana (Pa.) Crimson Hawks on Saturday afternoon, in Clarion. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
