Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville men's tennis team opened its 2008-09 campaign at home Sunday afternoon but Division I La Salle spoiled the opener by handing the Marauders an 8-1 defeat.
La Salle, coming off an impressive 6-1 win over West Chester yesterday, continued its momentum by sweeping all six singles matches. Millersville's lone victory came at No. 2 doubles where seniors Dusty Speicher and Mark Treires topped Christian Harvey and Andy Petrusky, 8-6. La Salle earned 8-6 wins in the other two doubles bouts.
Reigning PSAC Eastern Division Rookie of the Year Drew Slocum was narrowly edged at No. 1 singles. He took the first set 6-4, but George Gennaoui won the second 6-7 and took the tiebreaker by a 10-3 count.
Millersville returns to the court Wednesday when Philadelphia visits the McComsey Tennis Courts at 2 p.m.
