Shepherdstown, W.Va. – After falling behind 3-0, the Millersville women's soccer team attempted to rally, scoring two goals late in the second period, but the rally came up just short as Shepherd held on to defeat the Marauders 3-2.
Shepherd's Briana Hines scored two goals and assisted on the other as the Rams built a 3-0 advantage in the 54th minute. While the Marauders trailed, they dominated the game statistically, holding a 12-8 advantage in shots--11 of which were on goal--and had four corner kicks to Shepherd's one.
The Marauders crack the scoring column at 72:05 when sophomore Olivia Taylor scored her second goal of the season. With just under five minutes remaining, Niki Roberts scored an unassisted goal to cut the lead to one, but that would be all the Marauders could manage.
Shepherd goalkeeper Tracy McCarty played the first 53 minutes and stopped all seven Millersville shots she faced. Both goals were scored on Lauren Vetock, who also managed to make two saves. Millersville keeper Jaime Lancaster tallied two saves as well.
The loss snapped Millersville's two-game winning streak, and the team's record falls to 3-2 overall. Both of Millersville's losses this season have come by just one goal.
The Marauders have an opportunity to bounce back Sunday afternoon when they face Wheeling Jesuit in Shepherdstown, W.Va.
