Marauders Top Princeton, Fall to Lock Haven

Millersville, Pa. - Millersville earned a dominating 34-7 dual meet victory over Princeton Saturday morning to improve its record to 3-0. Lock Haven, however, put an end to the home team's streak, edging the Marauders 31-15 to cap the tri-meet at Pucillo Gymnasium.

Millersville, now 3-1, had won five-straight duals before the loss to Lock Haven. Princeton fell to 2-7 overall and Lock Haven, which also defeated Princeton, improved to 4-3. For the Marauders, 174-pound Shane Smith and 165-pounder Jeremy Brooks went unbeaten on the day, and 141-pounder Mike Greck went 2-0 with a forfeit.

Against Princeton, the Marauders won the first seven matches including three by fall to build a 34-0 lead. John Andel scored a 13-3 major decision at 125, and Sean Reed followed with a first period pin at 133. #J.J. Lester at 149 and Brent Huffman# at 157 won by decision. Brooks and Smith put the Tigers away for good by scoring back-to-back pinfalls. Brooks' came at 4:35, Smith's came at 3:21.

With the win, Millersville evened the all-time series with Princeton at 3-3 and has now won three of the last four meetings.

Lock Haven, however, proved too much for the Marauders, winning four of the first five bouts. Greck picked up Millersville's first points with a 9-3 decision over Owen Wilkinson. Brooks and Smith cut into Lock Haven's lead, though. Brooks recorded his second pin of the day, defeating Aaron Ernest in just 1:49. Smith won by default at 2:38 but was in command, having built a 7-0 lead with time remaining in the first period.

Millersville could not keep the momentum as Lock Haven earned victories at 184 and 197 then picked up a forfeit at heavyweight to seal Millersville's fate.

With two victories Saturday, Brooks improved to 11-2 on the season and has won four-straight matches and six of his last seven. Smith boosted his season record to a team-best 13-6.

The Marauders are idle over the Holidays and return to action at the Wilkes Open on Saturday, Dec. 28.
