Marauders Cannot Hold Early Lead, Fall to Kutztown 3-1

Box Score

Kutztown, Pa. – Millersville forward Taylor Suskie gave the Marauders an early lead Tuesday afternoon but could only watch as the home standing Golden Bears delivered three unanswered goals the rest of the way resulting in a 3-1 victory in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action.

Millersville (4-10-1, 1-8-1 PSAC East) outshot the hosts by a 12-8 margin and collected nine corner kicks opportunities to just five for Kutztown (11-4-2, 5-3-2 PSAC East).  It was the second time this season the Marauders recorded more shots than the Golden Bears but failed to claim the victory.  The Marauders fired 13 shots to just seven for the Bears back on September 17th in the two teams' first meeting.  Kutztown went on to win the game by a final of 1-0.

Suskie gave the Marauders an early 1-0 advantage 16:32 into the match after taking a feed from teammate Allison Snyder for her third goal of the season.

Kutztown responded to tie the match midway through the first half when midfielder Jen Tice scored off a corner kick by teammate Carolynne Kahl at the 32:19 mark.

Millersville controlled the game much of the half as they fired nine shots on Golden Bear goalkeeper Steph Addleman, requiring five saves by the freshman.

Kutztown quickly changed the momentum as the Golden Bears took the lead just under four minutes into the second half when midfielder Rachel Mehaffey beat Millersville goalkeeper Jaime Lancaster for her first goal of the season.  The Golden Bears then put the game away with Kahl's team-leading ninth goal of the season midway through the period.

The first-half goal for the Golden Bears marked the first time in over three weeks an opponent managed a goal on Lancaster and the rest of the Millersville defense.  The last goal against the Marauders came back on October 4 in a 2-1 overtime loss to California.

The Marauders will take the field again this Saturday, October 25, when they travel to Shippensburg for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Lady Raiders.  Shippensburg defeated Millersville in the first meeting between the two teams back on September 27 by a final of 3-1 at Beimesderfer Stadium.
