Millersville

Kristin Kunzman

Kristin Kunzman, a 2008 graduate of Millersville joined Mary Fleig’s women’s basketball staff as assistant coach prior to the 2017-18 season.

Kunzman made an immediate impact in her first season at Millersville, helping the team to 18 wins and a PSAC Runner-Up finish. The Marauders returned to the postseason in 2018-19 as well while Lauren Lister was named the PSAC East Athlete of the Year.

Kunzman made history in 2016-17 by guiding her UVa.-Wise team a 21-11 record and reaching the Mountain East Conference Tournament semifinals. The 21 wins were the most by the program since its transition to the Division II ranks. Kunzman served seven as the Cavaliers’ head coach for seven seasons, inheriting a struggling program mid-season in 2011-12. The program’s overall and conference win totals consistently improved, resulting in the successful 2016-17 season.

Kunzman’s UVa.-Wise teams won a MEC Tournament game in four consecutive seasons and the 34 wins over the last two seasons were the most for the program in more than a decade. She coached six 1,000-point scorers and coached four All-MEC selections in the last two seasons. Recently, Kunzman was one of just 40 coaches selected to attend the Women’s Coaches Academy in Denver, Colo.

As a Marauder, Kunzman was a true student-athlete, earning PSAC Scholar-Athlete honors in her two seasons with the team while serving as a captain for a 2007-08 team that went 24-6 with a perfect 12-0 PSAC East record. Kunzman played in 42 games with five starts in her two seasons at Millersville. She transferred to Millersville after reaching the NAIA national tournament at the University of the Cumberlands.

Kunzman became the head coach at UVa.-Wise only three years after she graduated from Millersville.  But she became a head coach the year prior at Division III Daniel Webster College in New Hampshire. She had served as team’s assistant for two seasons, helping the program to a 2010 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) regular season championship. As the head coach, she was named the Division III New Hampshire Coach of the Year, leading the team to its first NECC Championship and the first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
